According to the University Police Department — or UPD, the UAA Social Sciences Building was burglarized on Saturday, Nov. 23. Many students arrived at UAA Monday morning and noticed a boarded-up window in the lobby of the building.
In an email to The Northern Light, UPD Chief Jeff Earle said the suspect broke a window in an attempt to steal the ATM in the lobby but was unsuccessful. Nothing was stolen during the break-in, he said.
Chief Earle said UPD is still identifying the suspect.
The suspect is a “White Male Adult, approximately 6 foot, and approximately 200-250 lbs,” said Earle.
He said janitorial staff alerted UPD at 6:20 a.m. after discovering the broken window.
According to Chief Earle, UPD responded to the scene, collected evidence to identify the suspect and documented the damage.
“The investigation continues to try and identify the suspect. When identified a warrant for Burglary, Criminal Mischief, and attempted Theft will be filed,” said Earle.
More information on the burglary will be reported as it becomes available.
