The Great Alaska Shootout kicked off on Nov. 21 with North Dakota State vs. Vermont and UAA vs Troy. While the Seawolves took an early lead against Troy, Troy rallied back in the third and fourth quarters and clinched the win in overtime 80-73. This leaves the Seawolves facing off against University of Vermont for the first time ever on Nov. 22 for third place.

The Great Alaska Shootout is a tournament pitting the Div. II Seawolves against Div. I opponents, with the Seawolves playing exhibition matches that will not count against their current 6-1 season. Originally an eight team competition known as the Northern Lights Invitational, it became a four team format in 1999.
